As all the cohorts have, the group stepped up to the challenge. In particular, there was a huge level of commitment to take the outcomes from a day spent working though the Design Thinking methodology back to their local teams.
HE Connect Leadership programme
I had a great week last week, facilitating the second module for Cohort 4 of the HE Connect programme for Harsco Environmental, in partnership with Roffey Park Institute.
Working with Andrew Needham, we challenged the group to really push their thinking about their leadership practice, and how they might adapt their approach to lead their teams in a complex, diverse and dynamic context.
Using Conflict well in Teams
I regularly see both leaders and teams grappling with how do conflict well. There seems to be general acceptance that disagreeing well can be beneficial, in terms of problem solving, collaboration, change and strategic thinking to name just a few.
Teaming, working hard and having fun
I recently returned from the longest work trip I've had - almost 4 weeks in Qatar, working on programmes for Executive Development at Cranfield School of Management. Client confidentiality means I cannot mention any specifics about the work, but I wanted to share some reflections....
HE Connect Leadership Programme
I am catching up with myself this morning, after facilitating all last week, working with Cohort 4 of the Harsco Environmental HE Connect programme at Roffey Park Institute. It was a great week, with some of the highlights being...
Learning from 21 years – 21 books
This is a list of the 21 books that have had the most impact on my practice over the past 21 years, all of which I'd recommend for anyone that is looking to help people to thrive in organisations...
Celebrating my business 21st birthday
I have just turned 21!
It would of course be more accurate to say that I have just celebrated 21 years in business. This is not something that I would have predicted early in my career, and probably not even 21 years ago, when I was made redundant and decided to take the plunge to set up in business myself.
Teaming
In this video I talk about the difference between the ideas of team and teaming. In the fast paced and dynamic environment in which many of us are now operating, approach challenges with a teaming mindset is more helpful than a more static notion of team.
Outtakes
One factor associated with cultivating this sort of environment is how we respond to mistakes. Are we open about them, and use them to contribute to learning, or do we try to hide them, because we worry that others will see our mistakes as weaknesses?
Psychological Safety
As outlined in my previous video, the 3 strands of the flockofcats proposition are thriving, teaming and adapting. One subject cuts across all of these strands - psychological safety.
In my latest flockofcats video I share my take on this critical topic, with particular reference and gratitude to the great work in this field - the brilliant Amy Edmondson
.
One tip that I would share, that I've started using on projects and programmes, is to ask colleagues -
'How can we help each other to be at our best working together?'
